Chief Drayton has worked in campus law enforcement since 1979. He began his career as a student, and student police officer at the University of Southwestern Louisiana and was named the departments' fifth police chief at age 26.
Chief Drayton has extensive knowledge of the campus law enforcement profession, is a graduate of the 159th Session of the FBI National Academy, and has presented on various topics at a number of different conferences and training sessions for local, national and international audiences.
He has held positions at the University of Southwestern Louisiana Police Department, George Washington University Police Department, the Director of Public Safety at the University of Oregon, and Police Chief at Florida State University. “I enjoy working in the campus environment, and making a positive difference in the safety of the campus community.” The Chief spearheaded the efforts at the Florida State University to have the department accredited and more importantly reaccredited 3 years later. “Accreditation is your profession’s approval that you are conducting yourself using the very best knowledge, information, techniques, and policies available”.
Chief Drayton was appointed as the Assistant Chief of Public Safety for the University of Southern California (USC) in November 2005. He is appointed as Interim Chief after the departure of Chief Graves in January 2006. As of August 1, 2006, he is appointed as Executive Director/Chief of Public Safety. Chief Drayton has been fully committed in developing goals, and objectives to ensure high quality public safety services. “It is exciting to be a part of the Trojan Family and I look forward to hearing from you on ways to improve the safety and security in our community.”
