Department of Public Safety, PSAOffice Hours Monday-Friday, 9 am – 5 pmPhone: (213)740-5519
USC has a large bicycle population within a small geographic area. The Department of Public Safety provides a variety of services for the campus community relating to bicycle enforcement. The DPS office, located in Parking Structure A, is where bicycles can be registered, reported stolen, and released from impound.
Bicycle Registration Bicycle registration is required by California State Law, Vehicle Code Section 39000-39011.
You can register your bicycle in the DPS office during regular university business hours (9 am–5 pm). Please bring your bicycle, valid photo ID and $3.00 cash.
Bicycles Lost or Stolen
If your bicycle was lost or stolen on university property, please CALL the DPS office at 213.740.6000 to have an officer write a report at the location. An officer is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to take reports.
Bicycle Safety
To ensure the safety of pedestrians, please walk your bike on the sidewalks and through intersections. In order to enforce these guidelines, officers are deployed at locations that experience a high volume of bicycle traffic. Bicycles must be walked from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, on Trousdale Parkway from the north end of Bovard.
Bicycles are considered vehicles and should not interfere with the rights of pedestrians. Bicycles MUST NOT block entrances, handicap ramps, stairs, etc.
All applicable sections of the California Motor Vehicle Code pertaining to bicycle use are to be observed on the properties of the University of Southern California. - Scampus
Bicycle Impounding
Any bicycle parked in a spot other than a bicycle rack is considered parked illegally and will be impounded.
All bicycles illegally parked or not registered will be impounded. Bicycles which present hazards to pedestrians, other bicyclists or vehicles will also be impounded.
You can retrieve an impounded bicycle at the DPS office. The impound fee is $20.00. If your bicycle is not registered, there is an additional registration fee of $3.00. You must have the fee at the time of release (CASH OR CHECK). If you are unable to pay, you must sign a Promissory Form indicating future payment. You have 3 days to return with the impound and/or registration fee. If you do not abide by the Promissory Form, you will be cited to Student Judicial Affairs and Community Standards.
