MPN Quick Reference Guide
  1. The purpose of the Medical Provider Network (MPN) is to provide injured USC employees with timely access to a network of qualified physicians who primarily specialize in the treatment of occupational injuries.
  2. In the event of an injury, you MUST treat with an MPN physician. Unauthorized treatment with medical providers outside the MPN will not be covered.
  3. After your initial visit to an MPN physician, you may continue treating with that physician as needed, or you may change your treating MPN physician. You may change your treating MPN physician as many times as you wish.
  4. To make a change you can click on this link http://capsnet.usc.edu/wc/MPN/index.cfm to get a list of providers in the MPN. You may choose a provider by location or by specialty. You may also contact your claims adjuster at Sedgwsick CMS at (800) 854-6188, or the USC Workers’ Compensation Department at 213-740-6205 to obtain a referral. Please notify your claims adjuster should you elect to change your MPN physician.
  5. If you do not agree with your treating MPN physician's diagnosis or treatment plan, you may seek a second opinion from another MPN physician. Should you feel you need a second opinion, please notify your claims adjuster.
  6. If you do not agree with the diagnosis or treatment plan of the MPN second opinion physician, you may seek a third opinion from another MPN physician. Should you feel you need a third opinion, please notify your claims adjuster.
  7. If you do not agree with the diagnosis or treatment plan of the MPN third opinion physician, you may request an Independent Medical Review from the Administrative Director of the California Division of Workers' Compensation. The Administrative Director will assign an Independent Medical Reviewer to your case. Should you feel you need an Independent Medical Review, please notify your claims adjuster.
If you are receiving treatment for an injury sustained prior to the implementation of your employer's MPN, in some cases that care may be transferred into the MPN. Exceptions to this transfer of care may be to continue treatment for acute or chronic conditions, terminal illnesses or to perform previously authorized surgeries or other procedures. Please refer to the Medical Provider Network Employee Notification FAQ for further details concerning the MPN Continuation of Care Policy.
  8. Should you have difficulty scheduling an appointment with or finding an MPN physician, or if you have any questions about the MPN process, please contact your claims adjuster at Sedgwick CMS at (800) 854-6188, or you may contact the USC Workers’ Compensation Department at 213-740-6205.
