Wellness Tips
Ergonomic consultations are an important component of wellness in the workplace, but they are not the only component. It is necessary to address other possible causes of your aches and pains.
- Additional body weight can place a huge toll on your joints.
- Lack of circulation can lead to varicose veins and nerve damage.
- Poor eating habits are often related to the midday energy crash.
Wellness tips such as these are designed not only to help you feel more comfortable at work, but also to improve your overall health and wellbeing.
Try to get up from your desk once every half an hour to an hour. Stand up from your chair and stretch for a minute or two or take a quick walk around your building. Not only the activity beneficial to help increase circulation throughout your body, but the endorphins you receive from moving around will help you to have improved concentration and focus once you return to your desk.
Not only is water crucial for the physical wellbeing of your body, but it also helps you to feel refreshed and alert. Additionally, getting up from your desk to refill your water bottle or to use the restroom provides you with an automatic, built-in work break.
Choose to take the stairs instead of the elevator or choose to walk a few extra blocks instead of take the tram. A little movement each day is better than no activity at all.
Instead of a bowl of candy or chocolate at your desk, why not try something else? Be creative. You could use healthy snacks such as small apples or almonds. Many non-food options exist as well. Think of something that makes you happy such as a small potted plant, your favorite picture, or an index card with a positive thought for the day.
- Promote healthy changes in your workplace
Actively work with your colleagues to create a healthy office environment by eliminating junk food and candy from your office. Bring in healthy snacks and remind each other to take micro-breaks every hour.
