Anyone using radioisotopes regardless of status (e.g. undergraduate, graduate, etc.)

Parts I and II covered over two days, 3 hours per day

Initial training with EH&S

Annual refresher conducted by PI

All university employees, visiting scholars, volunteers, etc. that work in university laboratories are required to take the 2-day Laboratory Safety Course. To obtain full credit for the course: (a) Parts I and II must be attended in consecutive order and at the scheduled day and time, and (b) class and homework assignments must be completed.

Annual refresher conducted by PI

All undergraduates in directed research, student workers, work study students, and high school students that work in university laboratories must attend a special, 3-hour session on Laboratory Safety. The sessions are scheduled on an as-needed basis.

NOTE: High school students must have the USC Parent Consent Form completed, signed, and returned to their USC research advisors prior to working in USC laboratories.

  Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP)

Anyone working with (or has the potential to be exposed to) human or non-human primate blood, blood products, cell lines, bodily fluids, or other potentially infectious materials

One hour

Initial training with EH&S

To register for the Laboratory Safety Course, please follow the instructions below. NOTE: It may be easier to print this page for quick reference.

  1. Go to the Professional Development web page at: http://capsnet.usc.edu/ProfessionalDevelopment/index.cfm
  2. Under the “Registration” tab on the left, click on “Online Registration”.
  3. Login to USCNET with your USC username and password.
  4. Under the “View Classes” tab on the left, click on “Environmental Health & Safety”.
  5. Click the “Register for this Class” link that corresponds to the training you would like to register for.

NOTE: If you still have problems registering after following the above instructions, please send an email to Ms. Itzel Williams (imolinawilliams@caps.usc.edu) to enroll based on space availability.

 
   How to Register for Undergraduate Lab Safety Training
 

Go to http://www.localendar.com/public/USCEHS to view posted sessions.

To register, click on the Contact Department link below. In the Subject box, enter "Undergrad Lab Safety Training"; in the Message box enter "Please register me for the training session scheduled on (enter date of session)." Include the name of the advisor you will be working for and your status i.e., undergraduate or high school student.

Remember: The sessions are scheduled on an as-needed basis. If you have scheduling conflicts with the posted sessions (or none exist), click on the Contact Department link below to submit the day(s) and times you have free, 3-hour block(s). Include the name of the advisor you will be working for and your status i.e., undergraduate or high school student.

NOTE: High school students must have the USC Parent Consent Form completed, signed, and returned to their USC research advisors prior to working in USC laboratories.
