12.0 PROGRAM APPROVAL AND REVIEW
The purpose of this program is to inform the university community of the existing resources and guidelines regarding medical and first aid on campus.
The University of Southern California is dedicated to the protection of its employees from on-the-job injuries and illnesses. However, when injuries or illnesses do occur, we are prepared to immediately respond to the needs of the injured or ill.
California: Title 8, Section 3400 - Medical Services and First Aid.
4.0 MEDICAL EMERGENCIES
- Call Public Safety (740-4321 or 442-1000) to request assistance.
- Provide the location, nature of injury or illness, and the victim’s current condition. Appropriate medical assistance will be dispatched immediately.
- If possible, provide information about the age and sex of the victim, and any known medical history.
- Stay with the victim. Do not move the victim unless he/she or you are in immediate danger of further injury.
- If the injured person is a university employee, the supervisor must notify Worker’s Compensation at 213-740-6205. Supervisors must investigate the incident and submit a “Supervisor’s Report of Injury Form” to Worker’s Compensation within 24 hours of the incident (within 8 hours, for severe injuries).
- EH&S should be notified whenever an accident investigation requires technical expertise beyond that available in the department, and in many cases may conduct a follow-up investigation. Contact Worker’s compensation at 213-740-6205, or access their web page at: http://capsnet.usc.edu/WC/index.cfm for access to procedures and reporting forms.
The University Park Health Center provides medical services, counseling services, and health promotion and prevention services to students on the University Park campus.
