Transportation - Currently, Trojan Transportation has three alternative fuel trams that run on biodiesel. It is estimated that this program has the potential to include an additional 85 to 150 additional university vehicles in the future. Additionally, Transportation utilizes vanpool, carpool, and transit passes / vouchers. Hospitality - The Hospitality Services Department actively participates in USC's Recycling programs. Among the monthly averages of waste recycled primarily from food service operations are 1.04 tons of aluminum cans, 16.81 tons of cardboard, and 1.68 tons of glass/plastic.
The Department of Public Safety - Recently purchased electric-powered, three-wheeled vehicles and bicycles are now used daily to patrol the campus by DPS. About eight of the three wheeled carts are used daily and offer a green alternative to gasoline powered patrol cars. Facilities Management Services - Facilities Management Services organization counts on a fleet of electric vehicles and purchased the first hybrid cars for use by a USC department in 2006. Working with Housing to install a more efficient boiler system to proved steam to the university owned buildings. Housing - Currently recycles aluminum, plastic, and glass. The program partially run by students ensures that bins are placed in the housing units and that the materials are collected by licensed recyclers. They also retrofitted lighting throughout the buildings to include more efficient bulbs and fixtures. Additionally, they are replacing appliances and washers as needed with GE "Energy Star" appliances known for their efficiency. Last, They have been installing low flow shower heads in the residences and retrofitted some of the toilets with low water flow models that use much less water. |
