A Message from the Chief
The Department of Public Safety’s purpose in support of the university mission is to protect USC assets through a commitment of providing the best quality service, striving for excellence and building partnerships. This core purpose is essential to the work of the 231 men and women working in the Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Since the development of human beings and society as a whole through the cultivation and enrichment of the human mind and spirit is central to USC’s mission, the Department of Public Safety has a unique opportunity to develop safety and security programs that support the efforts of a diverse student, faculty and staff population to accomplish the university mission. Through committees, focus groups, and individual meetings with key members of the campus community, the leadership and staff of DPS continue to improve and change to meet the changing needs of our community.
Care and respect for one another as individuals, appreciation of diversity, team spirit, strong alumni networks and a commitment to service define the values of the Trojan Family. The men and women of DPS have pledged to support the community’s effort to uphold these values and the laws of the city, county, state and country.
It is only, however, through the combined efforts of all members of the Trojan Family that DPS can be successful. Your input to improve safety, your observations in the community, your attentiveness to crime prevention, and your personal choices for safety along with the efforts of the DPS staff working closely with our partners at LAPD will maintain the safe and secure environment desired by our community members. FIGHT ON!
